Tropical Storm Alberto pushing more rain and the threat of tornadoes to the RGV

Tropical storm Alberto may only be a weak storm but it packs a pretty good punch of rain, and now the threat of tornadoes, across the entire Rio Grande Valley.

Alberto is forecast to make landfall 300 miles south of the Valley at Tampico, Mexico before sunrise Thursday. The storm is pushing plenty of moisture and energy north across Deep South Texas providing fuel for rain and spark for thunderstorms. The tornado threat is for weak, short lived tornadoes which are mainly a threat for a temporary structure such as a travel trailer or shed.

Flooding will be a concern for everyone across the RGV with an elevated risk for excessive rainfall overnight.

The flood threat doesn't end Thursday as another tropical low is forecast to develop over the Bay of Campeche, down near the Yucatan, this weekend eventually moving north and possibly bringing more rain toward the Valley.
