Tropical Storm Alberto officially named, first of the season

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — We officially have the first named storm of this 2024 Hurricane Season.

Tropical Storm Alberto is still forecasted to make landfall in Tampico, Mexico which is 327 miles away from Harlingen or six hours and thirty-seven minutes away. However, impacts of Alberto are still expected across the Rio Grande Valley and other parts of the United States.

THE MAIN THREATS

The highest threats for today going into Thursday morning will be flooding and coastal flooding especially in low lining areas and areas that are prone to flooding. Gusty winds are also possible in the lower Valley, such as Willacy and Cameron County, they have a Tropical Storm Warning in place.
