A tropical wave tracking toward the Rio Grande Valley may shoot straight to the (sweet spot) along the coast of Mexico later Friday. The sweet spot refers to a tropical event pushing inland 20 to 80 miles south of the Valley, so it pushes moisture off its north end, generating rain for the RGV.

The National Hurricane Center is giving a good chance that this tropical wave to get better defined and become a tropical depression before pushing inland late Friday.

The chance for rain is expected to start Friday morning and last through Saturday, early morning. So far, the forecast is keeping rainfall amounts low with up to an inch in the lower Valley and far less for the upper Valley.

Nonetheless, a flood watch will be in effect for Southern Hidalgo and all of Cameron County from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday.
This event is not expected to become a hurricane as it will interact with land too soon, which will diminish the system's growth potential dramatically.
Please be prepared to slow down and use extra caution while driving on wet roads or roads with limited visibility.
