Background

Gilbert is accused of killing his mother 47-year-old Angela Watt Gilbert and attempting to kill his father, Gary Scott Gilbert.

On April 18, 2023, officers were dispatched to the 21800 block of Stuart Place Road where they found Angela in a pool of blood in the living room. They also saw Gary holding down Dallas, an affidavit stated.

The document stated that Angela died from her injuries after being stabbed more than eight times on different areas of her body with a silver kitchen knife. Dallas told police he was talking to his mother about various topics before the attack.

“When all of a sudden, he started remembering that earlier in the day his dad was complaining about Dallas not [being] in shape to even throw a football,” the affidavit stated.

According to the affidavit, Dallas said he then walked into the kitchen and grabbed a knife and cut his mother's hand while "just playing around." At this point, he said he went into an “unexplainable [rage] of anger” and started stabbing Angela. His father woke up to the screams and Dallas said he was filled with so much anger that he began stabbing his father until he eventually dropped the knife, the document stated.

Dallas was taken into custody where he was jailed on a $1.5 million bond.

ValleyCentral covered the full details of the alleged attack in a previous story.

On Feb. 26, Dallas' defense team filed a notice of insanity defense in the case. The notice claims that Dallas was “insane at the time of the commission of the offense alleged in the instant indictment.”

Records show that the court heard arguments as to the motion to examine Dallas' competency, and that the defense team is to submit briefs. An announcement was also scheduled five days before his trial date.
