Trash and kitchen violations in plain sight at supermarket

SAN JUAN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Lettuce introduce you to this week's top performer!

Going above and beyond to make your salads more tasty!

And a super tea special-tea!

Plus, a supermarket says they’re going to do better after we found issues they admit would have been violations on a re-inspection.

It’s a step in the right direction of the food patrol’s mission to keep it clean.

Here’s what’s que rico and what’s que asco in this week's Food 4 Thought!

We surprised the team at Lettuce Eat Salad at 3341 Pablo Kisel Blvd in Brownsville.

Rocio, the manager, was awarded with a top performer sticker for having a clean inspection report.

She’s all smiles and was happy to give a sample of their special tea.

Cheers to samples!

Treating each guest like family is part of the top-performer attitude of care and cleanliness.

That’s que rico! But it’s que asco time!

We’re heading to Junior’s Supermarket at 108 East FM 495 in San Juan.

They had three Hidalgo County Health Inspection reports in January totaling to 79 violations.

Our first visit, was brief, but we were asked to leave.

Shortly after, Junior's VP of Development and Community Engagement, Elizabeth, emails the Food Patrol.

We gave them time to clean up and at their request, we came back with the latest inspection reports.

Elizabeth and the food patrol went through each inspection.

We cleared up some of the most pressing violations, like rodent droppings being found and a pest control report showing it’s cleared up, which is good for the thousands of customers Junior's serves.

With a kitchen manager by our side, we’re looking for the obvious.

We’re also finding trash in random places like behind the grill and on top of an oven.

“You’re looking a lot deeper than all three inspectors," Elizabeth told the Food Patrol.

But this isn't a deep look. It's in plain view.

We'd seen enough to let management hold their employees accountable.

And that’s Food 4 Thought.
