BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Public Health Association (TPHA) held its annual conference at Linear Park in Brownsville called "Activating Brownsville: Unlocking Health Through Knowledge in Motion."
Wednesday's workshop featured a tree planting ceremony that highlighted how urban planning and environmental actions can positively impact public health.
"Open spaces with trees, cooking possibilities like a farmer's market. These are public planning issues that are occurring all around the country, but this is really strong in Brownsville," said Cameron Walker, Urban Planning Section Director of the Texas Public Health Association.
The TPHA also planted a tree at the senior center to commemorate its 101st annual education conference.
