WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The John Lewis Voter Coalition hosted a town hall in Weslaco on Thursday to discuss the 17 constitutional amendments on the ballot this November.

A distinguished panel of community leaders and policy experts discussed the constitutional amendments to make sure voters know what's on the ballot.

Among the propositions discussed by the panel was Proposition 3, which would deny bail to individuals accused of certain violent or sexual offenses punishable as a felony.

Panelists also discussed a tax exemption in Proposition 4, that would dedicate a portion of revenue to the Texas water fund.

"Here in the Rio Grande Valley, we need water infrastructure immediately,” said Valley grassroots organizer Fabiola Escalon.  “Especially with the flooding, there's a lot of colonias that don't have water. They only have two hours of water service per day."
