Torres discusses latest nearshoring trends at IWS3

PHARR, Texas – U.S. licensed customs broker Jorge Torres spoke about current trends in nearshoring at the 3rd Industrial Warehouse Summit hosted jointly by the Pharr Bridge Board and Pharr Economic Development Corporation. 

In his speech, Torres said that while foreign direct investment into Mexico has been high, it could and should have been even better.

Torres, president of Rio Grande Valley-based Interlink Trade Services, also spoke about the federal tax concerns of Index, the maquiladora trade association.

He also spoke about the Isthmus of Tehuantepec rail freight project strongly supported by Mexico President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Once complete, the trade route linking the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific Ocean could become a competitor to the Panama Canal.

Torres also looked ahead to the presidential election in Mexico.
