HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — As of 9 a.m., the average gas prices for the Rio Grande Valley jumped 14 cents to $2.842 per gallon. The biggest movers were Cameron and Hidalgo Counties. Each county jumping up 18 cents on average overnight, according to GasBuddy.com.

The highest average prices are in Willacy County. Drivers are paying an average of $2.899 per gallon. The lowest is in Starr County, where drivers are paying the state average of $2.777.
With the states average now at $2.777, drivers in the Rio Grande Valley are currently paying about 7 cents more per gallon than across Texas and about 50 cents more per gallon than the state’s lowest reported price today. Today’s lowest-priced gas station in the U.S. according to Patrick De Haan of GasBuddy.com is at the Sam’s Club in Abilene, TX where it’s $2.23 for a gallon of regular gasoline.
This is the second major increase this month.
Gas jumps nearly 25 cents overnight in the Valley
On July 10th, fuel prices rose more than a quarter over night bringing the average price to $2.82. While today’s increase is only 14 cents, today’s average price for all four counties is 2 cents more than what we paid on that day.
