Three men arrested for weapons display in HEB parking lot

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Three men accused of displaying weapons during a verbal altercation at an H-E-B parking lot were arrested, authorities say.

On March 11, Brownsville police responded to an H-E-B parking lot located at the 2900 block of Southmost Road regarding people displaying weapons during an argument.

At the scene, police said the suspects left the area, but a suspect's vehicle was identified, the release stated.

Moments later, authorities patrolling the Roosevelt area, after callers stated they heard shots fired, found the suspect's vehicle driving through the 2200 block of Roosevelt Street.

Authorities attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver refused, prompting a multi-vehicle pursuit that extended to Harlingen.

The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Harlingen Police Department located the vehicle abandoned at the intersection of Commerce and Washington Street.

During the pursuit, police said they witnessed the suspects throwing the firearms along the expressway. The firearms were recovered and secured as evidence, the release added.

The suspects were identified as 18-year-old Uriel Martinez, 17-year-old Juan Yandel Saucedo Pena, and 18-year-old Alberto Ivan Lopez, who were given the following charges:

  • Seven counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
  • Two counts of engaging in organized criminal activity.
  • One count of discharging a firearm in certain municipalities.
  • One count of unlawful carrying of a weapon.
  • One count of deadly conduct.
  • One count of tampering with evidence with intent to impair.

Additionally, Saucedo Pena is being charged with evading arrest with a motor vehicle and reckless driving.

All three men were arraigned Thursday, April 10, where Saucedo Pena was issued a bond of $551,000. Martinez and Lopez were each issued a bond of $540,000.
