Threats of hail, storms to reach upper Valley area

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A severe weather risk was issued for the upper Rio Grande Valley, the U.S. National Weather Service announced.

Residents are advised to prepare ahead for possible heavy rain, damaging winds, lightning and hail.

Northern and westerns areas of Starr County are under a slight risk warning with severe weather possible for Roma and Falcon Heights. Scattered severe thunderstorms are possible for this area.

Mission City Manager announces retirement

A majority of Starr County including Rio Grande City and northern Hidalgo County are at marginal risk with possible isolated severe thunderstorms surrounding the area.

"Strong winds are also possible along with a low chance of tornados," the National Weather Service added.

No severe thunderstorms are expected for Cameron, Willacy and a majority of Hidalgo County.
