Thousands impacted by power outages in South Padre Island

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An ongoing power outage in South Padre Island has affected thousands of customers since early Saturday morning.

AEP Texas is reporting approximately 1,871 customer outages along Padre Boulevard through Andy Bowie County Park.

AEP Texas is also reporting 231 power outages north of Andy Bowie County Park.

The power has been out since early Saturday morning, and the utility company is estimating the lights will be restored on the Island around 2:30 p.m. this afternoon.

Another 75 customers remain without power in the San Benito area.

The South Padre Island power outage comes hours after a power outage affected the San Benito community.

The outage affected Bobby Morrow Stadium and San Benito High School on Friday night, leading the San Benito school district to postpone their homecoming football game.

San Benito's homecoming football game was postponed to 11 a.m. Saturday.
