McALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — South Texas Health System launched its fifth annual Think Pink Parade at STHS McAllen, aiming to raise awareness about breast cancer.
Over 40 vehicles participated in the parade, each adorned in shades of pink to emphasize the importance of early detection in saving lives. The parade included cars from the McAllen Police Department, Alamo PD, Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Department, and MTS Ambulance.
Breast cancer survivors Gilma Garcia and Caroline Rocha shared their personal experiences battling the disease following the parade.
"It hits everyone, not only just one person, [it affects] the whole family, and if you have a place of work, it affects them," Rocha said. "Bringing awareness also prevents the 'what might happen, what should I do' and the more you know the better."
Awards were given to the best-decorated vehicles, adding a competitive and celebratory element to the event.
"You have to take action for yourself as a woman," Garcia said. "Your body is important to you; you're here on this earth for a reason."
The Think Pink initiative continues to play a vital role in promoting breast cancer awareness in the Rio Grande Valley, encouraging early detection and support for those affected by the disease.
