BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) awarded five Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grants totaling $1.1 million to five Rio Grande Valley Schools on Wednesday.

TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III was on hand to present the ceremonial checks at Texas Southmost College in Brownsville.

"It's important because it gives back to the community, and it helps the area train their students in high-demand careers like healthcare and welding, which these grants are going to specifically train," Treviño said.

The school districts that were awarded were Edinburg CISD, Roma ISD, South Texas ISD, Texas Southmost College, and Weslaco ISD.
