SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Officials with the Texas Department of Emergency Management are on South Padre Island assessing beach erosion caused by Tropical Storm Alberto.

TDEM is using drones to take pictures to take top-down-view pictures of the coast line and comparing to pictures of the coast prior to the storm.

The teams have been trying to get pictures since Thursday but have not been able to due to wind and rain conditions.

“It’s our job to document any type of public assistance lost to our county,” said Juan Martinez, Operations Section Chief for Cameron County Emergency Management.

They want to get any erosion problems fixed as quickly as they can which requires adding sand to areas where it was lost.

They're expected to have the results by next week.
