Teen arrested after car chase ends in downtown Brownsville, police say

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A 16-year-old was taken into custody after a car chase ended in downtown Brownsville Wednesday afternoon.

On Wednesday, Brownsville police located a 2022 white Chevy Silverado that had been reported stolen out of Pharr. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the truck on Boca Chica Blvd and Old Alice Road, but the driver refused to stop, resulting in a pursuit.

Edinburg man accused of impersonating a police officer

According to a news release, the pursuit ended on E. Elizabeth Street and E. 13th Street after the driver bailed out and attempted to evade on foot.

The driver, identified as a 16-year-old, was apprehended and transported to the Brownsville Police Department. Their identity was not made available due to their age.

"We are grateful for the swift response of our Officers in handling this situation and ensuring the safety of our community. We want to continue to remind everyone to secure your vehicles everywhere you go, especially GMC and Chevrolet models," the release stated.

Police added that motor vehicle theft is a serious crime, and that juveniles can be charged as adults.
