TEDxMcAllen plans to shift the Rio Grande Valley’s narrative

MCALLEN, Texas – TEDxMcAllen 2024 will focus on telling the true story of the South Texas border region, says former TEDx presenter and committee member Evelyn Cano.

TEDx returns to the Rio Grande Valley on October 17 with a program at the McAllen Convention Center. The event will be open to the public.

Cano said the theme of the program will be “Unbound.”

“Unbound is really about looking at our community and all the potential, the abilities that they (Valley residents) have and sharing those stories,” Cano said.

“Some of them have left the region and some come back. But, at the end of the day, it’s those limitless potentials within our community that really shifts the narrative in the Valley.”

Cano said although the program is titled TEDxMcAllen, stories will be heard at the event that resonate with the Valley’s new One Region, One Voice motto.

“Unbound is about bringing everything together and making sure that we tell those stories because those are the stories that are going to shift the narrative of how South Texas is seen on a national scale.”
