Teddy's Barbecue U offers hands-on training

WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Teddy's Barbecue U is back. The popular Weslaco eatery is inviting the Rio Grande Valley to take their semi-annual barbecue class.

The 7-hour-long course from pit masters with a collective of over 20 years of experience takes you through their whole cooking process.

Attendees will learn everything from seasoning and smoking, selecting wood and building fires, to brisket, pork ribs, sausage making, and more.

"To have a hands-on course, where people can come in and actually cook on the vessels that we cook on every day, and just to kind of show them how the restaurant operates, is a blessing. If you're a beginner, or if you already are a competitor, or if you are thinking about opening a barbecue restaurant or anything like that, we're a resource," said Joel Garcia, owner and pit master.

The class will be held on June 22 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Attendees will be treated to breakfast and lunch, along with a class packet with extensive notes and a swag bag.
