Team Texas puts academics first in college boxing program

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Team Texas was founded in 2016 at Texas A&M University and has accumulated 12 national titles in college boxing, with the latest four won at a tournament in Macon, Georgia.

The team emphasizes the importance of academics over athletics, offering a boxing gym where students pay with good grades.

They also support students through the Las Brisas Boxing Club Scholarship Foundation, which helps with educational expenses.

Despite not qualifying for traditional scholarships as a club sport, the team is dedicated to both academic and athletic success.

The team members balance school, work, and boxing, finding fulfillment in their achievements and supporting each other.
