Taco Palenque stops egg surcharge in menu items

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral)—Popular Tex-Mex restaurant Taco Palenque announced it will stop charging an egg surcharge starting Sunday.

According to a news release from the franchise restaurant, starting Sunday, March 9, the restaurant will no longer charge extra for eggs.

"We believe in keeping things honest and fair, and we want you to enjoy your meal without any surprises at the register," Taco Palenque said in the statement.

Mission residents worry about cyber attack

The restaurant began the egg surcharge on Feb. 10 on breakfast plates with eggs due to the rising cost of the item. In a previous statement, Taco Palenque said that the egg surcharge will prevent increasing prices across the menu.

In a previous ValleyCentral article, the Tex-Mex restaurant responded to the decision of surcharging egg menu items.

“As you may be aware, shifting market conditions, inflationary pressures, and the ongoing impact of avian flu are affecting the cost of many products and services across industries," Taco Palenque said. "After several months of absorbing these increased costs without compromising the quality of our offerings, we have made the difficult decision to implement a price surcharge."
