EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A student accused of making a social media threat at Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.

The student is set to face charges for the alleged threat.

The threat came just a few weeks after an Edinburg North student was arrested for bringing a pistol with a loaded magazine to school.

Kinzey Lira, an 18-year-old student at Edinburg North, was arrested May 6 after a gun and loaded magazine were found in his backpack.

Lira told authorities he sold THC vape pens at school and believed he needed the gun for protection.

“In addition to that, he had wrapped rubber bands around the grip of the gun,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Guerra said. “Because he told agents that the gun was really hard to control when firing fully automatic.”

The name of the student who prompted this threat has not been named.
