HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Tom Castañeda from South Texas Health System discusses the Think Pink Parade, an annual event for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The parade, in its fifth year, encourages the community to decorate vehicles in pink to raise awareness.
Castañeda highlights that 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime, with 300,000 new cases and 40,000 deaths expected this year.
Emphasizing early detection, he notes discounted mammograms at $100 for 2D and $155 for 3D.
The event also features breast cancer survivors sharing their stories and a community expo with preventative resources. The parade takes place from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 4, in McAllen at 301 W. Expressway 83.
