MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — South Texas Health System kicked off its annual Cinco de Mammo initiative Monday by hosting a special luncheon.
Breast Cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women in the United States, per the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
"It is very important that women get checked yearly," said Jessica Munguia, STHS Mammogram Technologist. You know the fact that breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women. There is hope when screened early and detected early, there is about a 90% survival rate, and that's great if we can utilize mammography on a new basis, or even before a symptom is felt."
Through its annual Cinco de Mammo initiative, STHS is encouraging women to speak with their doctor about their breast cancer risk and to schedule their annual mammograms.
