State speaks on response efforts to Beryl

AUSTIN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick is hosting a news conference to address response efforts in light of Tropical Storm Beryl wreaking havoc on some Texas communities.

Patrick will be accompanied by Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd.

In a news conference Friday, Patrick and Kidd stressed the importance of spreading awareness for the, then potential, hurricane that was headed toward the state.

On Friday morning, Beryl officially made landfall in Tulum, Mexico as a strong Category 2 Hurricane with winds of 110mph.

As of 8 a.m. this morning, over 1.5 million Texans were without power following Hurricane Beryl's landfall near Matagorda, Texas at 4:30 a.m.

The category 1 storm has claimed the lives of three Texas residents so far.
