Starr County Sheriff's Office gets new K-9

STARR COUNTY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Starr County Sheriff's Office has a new member, K-9 Calippo.

Calippo's handler is Deputy Juan Medina and they both underwent intense training through the National Narcotic Detector Dog Association to serve the community in Starr County.

K-9 Calippo is dual-purpose certified in narcotics and criminal apprehension, along with tracking and article/evidence recovery.

"Sheriff Rene “Orta” Fuentes is eager to add this newest resource to our agency as the Canine Unit will play an integral role in interdicting crimes and detecting narcotics," a release from the Sheriff's Office stated.
