HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Halloween is right around the corner, which means lots of frights, candy, and family-friendly fun.
Across the Rio Grande Valley, cities are getting in the spirit and brewing up Halloween fun with these events near you.

Here's how cities around the Valley are celebrating the spooky season:
Hidalgo County
- Edinburg: The city of Edinburg is inviting the community to its largest event of the season — the Edinburg Halloween Fall Festival. The free event will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 23, at the Edinburg Municipal Park located on 714 S. Raul Longoria Rd. Costumes are encouraged!
- Mission: Mark your calendars for the Halloween Spooktacular Festival in Mission. The free family-friendly event will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Mission Event Center, located on 200 N. Shary Rd.
- Palmview: The Palmview Police Department is hosting its annual trunk or treat event from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 30. The event will be held at the Palmview Municipal Park, located on 613 Palmview Commercial Dr.
- Penitas: Pumpkins, pumpkins, and more pumpkins! The city of Penitas invites the community to the Pumpkin Patch at Las Alturas for a photo opportunity and a time of family fun. The pumpkin patch is open through Friday, Nov. 7. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- La Joya: Businesses, organizations, and schools are welcome to set up a booth for free to hand out candy and to connect with families at Halloween at City Hall in La Joya. The event will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, located at 701 E. Expressway 83.
- Sullivan City: The community is invited to show off their spooky display at the annual Sullivan City trunk or treat event. Decorate your trunk and bring some candy! Trunk set up begins at 5 p.m. The event starts at 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 31, at Sullivan City Memorial Park, 500 Cenizo Dr.
- Hidalgo: The Halloween Nights of Terror is returning to the Hidalgo Historic District. Popularly regarded as the biggest candy giveaway in South Texas, the free event will also feature music, rides, and games. The event begins at 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 31, on 1st Street and Gardenia Avenue.
- Progreso: Progreso is ready to host its inaugural Halloween Market Night event. The event will take place from 6 to 10 p.m., Friday, Oct. 24, at Progreso City Park, along FM 1015 and Malone Drive.
- San Juan: The city of San Juan will host a free trunk or treat event with a costume contest, candy, music, and more! Festivities begin at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the San Juan Parks and Recreation building, located on 709 S. Nebraska Ave.
- Alamo: Who's ready for a spooky night in downtown Alamo? The city is hosting a trunk or treat and costume contest event from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24. at Central Park, located on 800 E. Main St. The event will also feature the city's haunted house attraction, so enter if you dare!
- Donna: The city of Donna is hosting its Spooktacular Bash, an evening full of vendors, candy, spooky movies, and a costume contest. The Spooktacular Bash will take place from 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the Donna City Square Park located on S. 8th St.
- Weslaco: The Eatery and the city of Weslaco are partnering to host a trunk or treat event and costume contest open to all ages. Pets are welcome. The event will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, at The Eatery, located on 400 S. Kansas Ave.
- La Villa: A citywide fall festival and BBQ cookoff will take place at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25, at the La Villa High School Cardinal Stadium, located at 200 TX-107. The event, hosted by the La Villa Independent School District, will conclude at 8 p.m.
- Mercedes: Nightmare on Ohio Street will bring the ultimate fright to downtown Mercedes. Music, vendors, and a haunted house are the perfect potion for a spooky, fun time. The event will take place from 6 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 30, along Ohio Street.
Starr County
- Rio Grande City: Learn about the haunted history of the downtown district and learn how to investigate the paranormal at the Kelsey Bass Museum, located at 101 S Washington St., on Friday, Oct. 31, from 5 to 7 p.m.
- Roma: Want to put your carving skills to the test? The city of Roma is hosting a free pumpkin carving contest at the Guadalupe Plaza, located on 5 E Grant St., from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
- La Grulla: You're invited to the city of La Grulla Trunk or Treat event! The event will take place at 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25, at the City of La Grulla Park located on Johnson Street.
Cameron County
- Harlingen: The city will host the Trail of Treats Halloween Festival at Lon C. Hill Park, located at 1217 Fair Park Blvd, on Friday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 9 p.m.
- San Benito: A fall festival will take place at the San Benito Fairgrounds, located at 1501 Cesar Gonzales, on Friday, Oct. 24, starting at 5:30 p.m.
- Brownsville: Gladys Porter Zoo will host Boo at the Zoo on Thursday, Oct. 30, and Friday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 9 p.m.
- Brownsville: Families can take photos and have fun at the pumpkin patch at Lincoln Park, located at 2150 W. University Blvd, on Oct. 23-26. Hours vary.
- La Feria: The city's police department will host its annual Halloween event on Friday, Oct. 31, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at 115 E. Commercial Ave.
- Combes: A Halloween drive-thru will take place at Combes City Hall, located at 21626 Hand Road, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Drive by with your costume and celebrate the spooky season with boo-tifl treats!
- Port Isabel: Did someone say treats and a spooky movie night? Halloween at the Lighthouse, located at 421E. Queen Isabella Blvd. will take place on Saturday, Oct. 25 followed by trick or treat at 6 p.m. and a movie at 8 p.m.
Willacy County
As of Oct. 23, Halloween event announcements have not been made by any cities in Willacy County.
