STARBASE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — SpaceX has filed permits to build a new gigabay at its Starbase facility.
According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, SpaceX is projected to pay $250,000,000 for the gigabay facility, an expansive vertical facility that supports production of the Starship rocket.
The new facility is expected to be completed by December of 2026. It will be 700,000 square feet.
SpaceX is also building a gigabay location in Florida.
Gigabay will be able to support Starship and Super Heavy vehicles up to 266 feet tall and will provide 24 work cells for integration and refurbishment work, along with cranes capable of lifting up to 400 US tons, SpaceX stated.
"Compared to the Megabay facilities in Starbase, currently SpaceX’s largest stacking and integration buildings, Gigabay provides more than 11 times the square-footage for workspace, 19 additional work cells, and more than twice the crane lifting capacity," the space company stated.
SpaceX aims to use these facilities to make Starship's launch rate and reusability more rapid.
