STARBASE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — SpaceX has applied to work on an expansion project in Boca Chica to expand 21 acres of its existing launch areas, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The project's proposal location is set to be at the 55-acre Starbase Launch Area in Starbase, Cameron County, with the purpose of the expansion supporting more launches. The application adds that the 21-acre expansion will provide reusable launch and landing infrastructure.
The notice states the project's description as follows:
"The proposed infrastructure would consist of a new controlled access entrance road, launch infrastructure components, which may include test/staging pads, water and propellant storage, isolation and purging facilities, support equipment staging, blast walls, and internal roadways.
"Silt fencing would be installed around the permitted limits of disturbance to minimize erosion and sedimentation impacts to receiving waters and to ensure construction equipment remains within the permitted Project limits. The Project would make use of existing impervious areas to the extent practicable when staging construction equipment."
The U.S Army Corps of Engineers is requesting comments from the public, federal, state, local agencies, officials, tribes, and any other interested parties to consider and evaluate the impact of this project.
