BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Brownsville is preparing for its second annual Space Fest celebration this weekend.
Space Fest is a family-friendly event showcasing education, innovation, and engineering.
This year, the event will be extended to a two-day celebration due to high demand.
"The response was amazing. We were hoping to have around 3,000 people, but we got over 10,000 attendees last year," said Mali Montesam, Assistant Director with the Brownsville Convention and Visitors Bureau.
STEM leaders from NASA, SpaceX, and the Astronomical Society will make guest appearances at the event.
"We invite the community and all tourists and attendees to come to Space Fest is going to be an immersive and absolutely amazing event," Montesam continued.
Space Fest will kick off at 6 p.m., Friday, May 30, at 923 E. Washington St. in Downtown Brownsville.
Day two of Space Fest will continue at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 31, at the Children's Museum at 501 E. Ringgold St.
The event is free to the public.
