South Texas College honors students with posthumous degrees

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — South Texas College honored two students over the weekend with posthumous degrees during its graduation ceremony.

The event occurred at the Bert Ogden Area where more than 4,000 students received their certificate, associate or bachelor's degree.

During the Friday graduation ceremony, STC honored Hidalgo ISD and STC Dual Credit Welding student Carlos Enrique Pereda Jr. with a posthumous degree. Hernandez died in an ATV accident, one month before his college and high school graduation.

On Saturday, STC Diesel Mechanics student Roberto Carlos Rios Rodriguez was also honored with a posthumous degree. Rodriguez died in March in a car accident.

The degrees were given to the students' family members and loved ones.
