Thanks to a slow moving, now a stalled cold front, situated in eastern Texas plus the addition of ample moisture is driving rain chances here across the Valley. (Also why we saw more rain than expected over Easter Sunday). We’re seeing heavy rain bands across Cameron and Willacy expanding west.
Some areas have received 1-3+ inches of rain since sunrise Monday morning.
The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has all four counties under a general risk for thunderstorms today. Our hazards include heavy rain bands, thunder and lightning. Some minor flooding (like streets and low-lying areas) can’t be ruled out.
Turn around don’t drown when encountering flooded roads!
This activity will continue into the afternoon but is expected to diminish through the evening/ overnight. An isolated shower or two can’t be ruled out Tuesday but coverage will be a lot lower than Monday!
After the front washes out and moves east rain chances will drop off for the rest of the week (from Wednesday on). Generally we’re looking at partly to mostly cloudy skies with near to slightly above average temperatures running us in the upper 80s to low 90s.
