Shots fired near Valley Border Patrol agents

SAN BENITO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Shots were fired Friday morning near Border Patrol agents, according to the U.S. Border Patrol.

The shooting, involving Rio Grande Valley sector agents, occurred at approximately 11:57 a.m. in the Harlingen Station area of responsibility near El Calaboz, a community six miles south of San Benito.

Authorities say the gun used was a rifle.

No serious injuries were reported from this incident

Investigative agencies have been notified of the incident and are at the scene.

The incident is being reviewed by Customs and Border Protection's Office of Professional Responsibility.
