Shooting leaves 1 person in critical condition, suspect at large

WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Hidalgo County deputies are searching for a man who fled the scene following a shooting at a residence.

At approximately 1:46 a.m. on May 3, the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a shooting at the 3000 block of W. Mile 5 in rural Weslaco, according to a news release from HCSO.

At the scene, witnesses told deputies that a 22-year-old victim was attending a party at the location when unknown individuals announced that the party was over.

Shortly after the announcement, gunshots were fired. The release stated that as the victim attempted to leave the party, he was shot and collapsed near his vehicle.

He was taken to a local hospital for his gunshot wounds and is reported to be in critical condition.

The suspected shooter was described as a Hispanic man who was last seen leaving the scene in an older model red Ford Mustang with a black bumper.
