MISSION, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Sharyland Independent School District announced its newest Superintendent during a school board meeting Monday evening.
Elaine Howard was approved as the new superintendent by the Sharyland ISD Board of Trustees.
"I am excited about the future, and the excellence that we will continue to promote. More than anything, I’m just excited about this journey that we are starting today. Thank you, Sharyland ISD," Howard said.
Howard has served as an executive district leader in the San Antonio and Austin area at Boerne ISD, Judson ISD and Hays ISD with up to 22,000 student enrollments.
The new superintendent will replace Maria Vidaurri, who announced her retirement last year in September after working with Sharyland ISD for five years.
Vidaurri will be stepping down from her position at the end of the school year.
The Sharyland ISD 2023-2024 school year will end May 30.
Classes will resume for the 2024-2025 school year on August 19, with Howard leading the district.
