SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Shark sightings in South Padre Island have sparked concern across social media, following one year since the Fourth of July shark attack.

Cameron County Park Rangers want to remind the people, that it is very common to see sharks along the shoreline, as it is their natural habitat.

However, officials understand the increased concern following the 2024 Fourth of July shark attack but assure the public there has not been calls of shark attacks since.

"It is just sharks swimming in their homes," said Ramiro Garza, Cameron County Park Chief Deputy.

Deputy Garza advises those who come across a shark at the shoreline or nearby them in the water the best thing to do is to stay calm, avoid sudden movements, and exit the water slowly.

Alert other swimmers and call the authorities.
