Shark attack at South Padre Island leaves one hospitalized

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (ValleyCentral) — One person has been hospitalized following a shark attack Thursday morning, according to the Mayor of South Padre Island.

The shark attack happened at approximately 11 a.m. along Beach Access 14, near Wanna Wanna Beach Bar and Grill.

According to SPI Mayor Patrick McNulty, authorities are currently at the scene to talk to witnesses.

The U.S. Coast Guard has also been notified and is deploying drones, boats and a helicopter to surveillance the area and keep the waters safe from any further attacks.

The condition of the victim is unknown at this time.
