Sex offender charged with kidnapping, raping woman at gunpoint in rural Donna

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 27-year-old Alamo sex offender who kidnapped a woman and raped her at gunpoint in rural Donna.

Michael Contreras was arrested Friday and charged with aggravated kidnapping. The charge stems from a June 7 incident in which Contreras is accused of picking up the victim, identified only as a female, from the 5200 block of Los Indios Lane in rural Donna, according to the sheriff’s office.

The victim told authorities she was taken against her will, at gunpoint, and was sexually assaulted while inside Contreras’ black SUV.

“Investigators linked Contreras by identifying him through the Hidalgo County sex offender database,” the sheriff’s office said. “The victim later confirmed his identity through a photo lineup.”

The suspect was already in custody at the Hidalgo County Detention Center on a separate sexual assault charge from a 2024 case.

His bond was set at $500,000 on the June 7 aggravated kidnapping charge.
