'Senior De Mayo' celebration for residents over 50

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Edinburg Parks and Recreation Department on Friday hosted the 'Senior De Mayo' event for community members age 50 and over.

Those in attendance enjoyed food, sombrero decorating contests, games, arts and crafts, Loteria, and other activities.

"I feel it's important for us to create events for senior citizens," said Lisa Rodriguez, Program Coordinator, Edinburg Parks and Recreation. "There's a lot out there for kids, but you don't see a lot of events for seniors. Our main goal is to get those at home who don't have much to do, or maybe they're alone."

Parks and Recreation staff also lead low-impact group exercises at the facilities' gym for those who were interested.
