Sen. Bernie Sanders visits South Texas

MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is in the valley tonight.

Bringing his ‘fight oligarchy’ tour to McAllen.

Sanders has been criss-crossing the country on this tour, bringing his populist message to crowds in red and blue areas.

Joining Sanders tonight is U.S. Representative Greg Casar.

Casar represents the 35th congressional district in Texas, which stretches from the northeast of Austin to the southeast of San Antonio.

Just after 7, the first speaker took the stage for tonight’s rally.

Veronica Guerrero, representing the McAllen American Federation of Teachers, took the stage to thunderous applause.

Guerrero is spending the bulk of her time expressing her opposition to the education savings account program passed in the newly ended legislative session.

Public school teachers are well-represented in the crowd, and Guerrero found a sympathetic audience as she told the assembled crowd that the scheme robs public schools of much-needed dollars.

Also scheduled to speak are representatives from the AFL-CIO.
