Second daycare worker pleads not guilty in hot van child death case

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Sendy Ruiz, one of two women accused in the hot van death of a Brownsville boy, has pleaded not guilty.

Ruiz, who was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, waived her arraignment on Nov. 6 and pleaded not guilty to injury to a child recklessly causes serious bodily injury, a second-degree felony, according to Cameron County court records.

Ruiz, 37, was formally charged for her role in the death of 4-year-old Logan Urbina, who was found in a van that belonged to the Learning Club Pre School.

Daycare worker accused in hot car death of 4 year old pleads guilty

According to previous ValleyCentral reports, Urbina was found in the hot van on June 27, hours after a morning field trip.

Both women transported 24 children back to the daycare after the field trip, arriving back at the daycare around 11:30 a.m.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., daycare staff members realized Urbina was missing.

Docs reveal Brownsville boy was left in hot van after field trip

The other daycare worker, Karen Silva, pleaded guilty to the same charge on Nov. 4 and is scheduled for sentencing on Nov. 20.
