RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The first week of Texas high school football is slated to begin Thursday. ValleyCentral will be here throughout the season to provide live updates.

Last year's season was headlined by the Brownsville Veterans Memorial Chargers reaching the 5A Division I semi-finals. Now in 6A, the Chargers will open the season against PSJA Memorial on Thursday. Two former district foes will also face off this week, with Weslaco squaring off against Harlingen on Friday night.
