School district closings, delays due to potential storm

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A flood watch remains in effect across the Rio Grande Valley prompting a number of area school districts to close temporarily.

The following is a list of school districts that will close and postpone summer activities due to the anticipated weather.

Donna ISD

The Donna Independent School District announced they will be canceling all summer school and ACE programs on Wednesday, June 19 and Thursday, June 20.

La Villa ISD

Summer school and the RISE/ACE Program at La Villa Independent School District will be canceled on Wednesday, June 19 and Thursday, June 20.

Mercedes ISD

All Mercedes Independent School District summer school and camp programs will be canceled Wednesday, June 19.

The canceled programs include the Child Nutrition Services Summer Meals Program, ACE Summer Programs and Athletic Camps.

Point Isabel ISD

The Point Isabel Independent School Distict is canceling their ACE event on Wednesday, June 18.

San Benito CISD

All academic summer school programs for all grade levels, including bilingual education summer school, will end Tuesday for the following campuses:

  • San Benito High School
  • Veterans' Memorial Academy
  • Berta Cabaza Middle School
  • Judge Oscar de la Fuente Elementary

STAAR EOC Testing for the secondary schools will be canceled on Wednesday, June 19 and resume Thursday, June 20.

All District Athletic Programs, ACE After-School Summer Camps, and the McKinney Vento Homeless Grant Activities at the Landrum Education Complex will be cancelled for Wednesday.

Santa Maria ISD

The Santa Maria Independent School District announced there will be no school for students and staff on Wednesday, June 19.

Santa Rosa ISD

There will be no ACE Program on Wednesday, June 19 and Thursday, June 20.

Weslaco ISD

All Weslaco Independent School District summer activities will be postponed on Wednesday, June 19 and Thursday, June 20.

Weslaco ISD announced their make-up days for the following summer activities:

  • Summer School: July 1 and July 2
  • Emergent Bilingual Summer School: July 8 and July 9

Valley View ISD

All Valley View Independent School District summer activities and classes are canceled on Wednesday, June 19.

The cancelations apply to fine arts and sports activities.

This list will be updated as school districts announce their plans for closings and delays.
