School bus transformed to community closet, food pantry

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A school bus in Harlingen has been transformed to serve the community, one stop at a time.

The Mobile Relief Unit is a new and transformed resource stocked with clothing, food and essential supplies for the community.

"We just went through this flood and bad weather, so we went ahead and put this together. We have the mobile here ready to assist families," said Sylvia Gonzalez, Director for Family and Community Engagement for Harlingen CISD.

The mobile bus will soon make its way to different locations throughout Harlingen and nearby cities.

"We want to thank the community. A lot of people have been donating stuff to us here at HCISD, giving us supplies we have," Gonzalez continued.
