RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Cities across the Rio Grande Valley are providing sandbags in preparation for this weekend's anticipated rainfall.
San Benito
The City of San Benito will be distributing sandbags from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the City Service Center, located at 925 W. Stenger Street.
Proof of San Benito residency will be required. There is a limit of six sandbags per household or business.
Harlingen
In the City of Harlingen, residents can pick up their sandbags from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Public Works facility, located at 404 S. 54th Street.
Proof of residency will be required. There is a limit of six bags per residence and 10 bags per business.
Rio Grande City
In Rio Grande City, residents can pick up sand and bags between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday at 632 W. Eisenhower St.
Proof of residency will be required. There is a limit of five bags per household.
La Grulla
The City of La Grulla has been and will continue to distribute sandbags for residents.
On Friday it will be distributed sandbags from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the La Grulla Fire Station.
There is a limit of three bags per door.
Mercedes
The City of Mercedes is distributing sand and bags from 11 a.m. until supplies lasts on Friday at the Knights of Columbus Parking Lot, located at 150 N. Ohio Ave. Residents are encouraged to bring their own shovels.
Weslaco
The City of Weslaco will be distributing free empty sandbags from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Weslaco City Hall, located at 255 S. Kansas Ave.
Proof of residency is required and the city will only provide sand and bags. Residents are encouraged to bring their own shovels as it is a self service distribution.
There is a limit of six sandbags per residence and 12 per business.
Alamo
The City of Alamo began its sandbag distribution Thursday and will continue from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Alamo City Hall.
Proof of residency is required.
Residents who are over the age of 60 or who have a disability may request a green voucher from Alamo City Hall and request assistance at the Alamo Public Works, located at 803 S. Tower Rd. from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Residents may fill up five sandbags per household.
La Feria
The City of La Feria will be distributing sandbags from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the Public Works Warehouse.
Residents are encouraged to bring their own shovels. There are five sandbags per residential household and 10 bags per business.
Mission
The City of Mission of will also be hosting a self-service sandbag distribution from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the Speer Memorial Library.
There is a limit of six bags per household.
