SAN BENITO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of San Benito will host its first Walking Bus Event on Friday.

Starting at 7 a.m., the event is designed to promote physical exercise and community engagement. It involves students and parents of Ed Downs Fine Arts Academy, encouraging them to start their day with a healthy activity.

"I plan on being here not only as a parent who comes here, but I actually helped start this program, along with Tu Salud Si Cuenta, the City of San Benito, and the San Benito CISD," said Samantha Guzman, event organizer. "We're getting this together to help out with our community, our safe streets for all grants, it's going to help us with sidewalks, maybe, which areas need sidewalks, and just overall, promote the community, getting together and promoting health and wellness."

Participants, including students and parents of Ed Downs Fine Arts Academy, will walk approximately three blocks to the academy. City staff and San Benito CISD police officers will be present to ensure safety during the event.

Future events are planned to extend this initiative to other schools.
