San Benito police search for suspect in deadly shooting

SAN BENITO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The San Benito Police Department is investigating a fatal overnight shooting.

According to San Benito Police Chief Mario Perea, authorities responded to a shooting at the 900 block of Stinger Street.

At the scene, authorities found a man and woman in their 20s with gunshot wounds. The suspect left the scene.

Authorities have not found the suspect, but they have identified him, Chief Perea told ValleyCentral.

Perea said San Benito PD has issued two arrest warrants for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; however, those charges may be upgraded as the male victim has died.

Authorities are actively looking for the suspect with the assistance of the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Rangers.

The victim's identity is being withheld, as the next of kin has yet to be notified.

Authorities will release the suspect's identity as soon as it becomes available.
