U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Gateway International Bridge last Friday apprehended a 25-year-old San Benito man wanted on charges of indecent liberties with a child.

In a Tuesday news release, CBP said Anthony Renteria arrived at the bridge last Friday in a 2016 GMC.

Renteria was referred for a secondary inspection where CBP found outstanding warrants for two counts of indecent liberties with a child out of Salinas, Kansas, according to the release.

Tater Ortiz, port director at the Brownsville Port of Entry, said CBP officers play a vital role in the pursuit of justice and keeping the community safe.

“The apprehensions of persons wanted in connection with alleged felony sexual offenses involving children are among the most heinous of crimes that we encounter,” Ortiz said in the release.

CBP turned Renteria over to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office.

He remains held in the Cameron County Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center.
