SAN BENITO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The sixth annual Día de los Muertos Caminata took place over the weekend.
The event was held on Sunday at the Heaving Park in San Benito, where many participants walked 3.5 miles to pay tribute to the victims of La Matanza of 1915.
Those who attended also paid respect and gathered to protest Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainments and deportations.
"Throughout history, we've seen that immigration has always been an issue," said Rob Robledo, PSJA World History Teacher and protestor. "It was an issue during the Roman Empire, it has been issue throughout every course of history. And, I don't think man has learned to deal with immigration yet. And, until we do, we're going to always continue to have problems with immigration."
