San Benito community gathers for Memorial Day ceremony

SAN BENITO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Veterans, the community, and ROTC members in San Benito gathered at the city's war memorial to remember service members who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

Monday's event served as a chance to reflect and fully understand the weight behind the meaning of Memorial Day.

"It's just remembering them, not remembering what happened, but remembering how they lived and how they served. The fun times that we had together. Those are the things we like to navigate towards. Those laughs, those things that we used to do on a day-to-day basis in service. So we love to reminisce on those things," said Jose Ramos, liaison for the Veterans Advisory Board.

Ramos said he also works side by side with city leaders year round to make sure veterans voices are heard throughout the city.
