SAN BENITO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Military High Water Supply Corporation has issued a water boil notice in the surrounding areas of San Benito due to a power failure at the Joines Road Water Treatment Plant.

At approximately 8 a.m., a power failure at the treatment plant caused a loss of system water pressure in the distribution system. As of Monday morning, the light company has been working to restore power.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required MHWSC to notify its customers to boil their water prior to consumption.

The MHWSC issued the water boil notice in the areas of North of FM 2520 up to Pennsylvania Ave., FM 732, FM 1577, FM 1421, Bent Tree Subd., Del Valle Subd., Resaca Santa Subd., Del Monte Subd., Lagos Subd., and other surrounding vicinities.

Customers are asked to boil their water prior to consuming it or using it for washing hands/face, brushing their teeth, drinking, etc.

The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes to ensure the destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes.

Residents are advised to purchase bottled water while the boil water notice is in effect.
